The College of Biological Sciences (CBS) has a number of scholarships for continuing students. All scholarships require that students be enrolled full-time in CBS and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (unless otherwise noted). The CBS website contains more information regarding a typical recipient profile. 

Two scholarships were established specifically for microbiology majors:

Patrick Cleary Scholarship

Dr. Patrick Cleary began his work at the University of Minnesota’s Department of Microbiology in 1972. His research has focused on the molecular basis of streptococci A disease. The Cleary Scholarship was created with the purpose to offer support to students who have shown an exceptional achievement in research and coursework. 

Palmer Rogers Microbiology Scholarship

Dr. Palmer Rogers joined the Department of Microbiology as a faculty member in 1962 until he retired in 1999. Dr. Roger’s research focused on E coli. Dr. Rogers was a loyal professor of microbiology and beloved by his students. This scholarship supports College of Biological Sciences students majoring in Microbioloy who demonstrate exceptional effort.
